I’d like to introduce you to Sarah Bagley. Sarah is a wife, mom, entrepreneur, fitness instructor, author, blogger, and NDI homeowner. While Sarah and her husband Dan were building their NDI home in 2013, Sarah approached me about coming to work for us. She had fresh ideas about expanding NDI on social media and talked about ways to improve the client experience. Bingo!
I had never hired a client before. But as my mamma used to say, there is a first for everything.
Sarah is passionate about a lot of things and that is reflective in all that she does. The one thing I think Sarah loves most is building custom homes. She loves to look at new trends in design, and she loves to talk about it.
Friends, meet Sarah (officially!)…
Tell us about yourself.
I’ve lived in the Northern Virginia area almost all my life – that’s pretty rare for this area! I grew up in McLean, and I graduated from the University of Virginia, where I met my husband. We’ve been married since 2008, and we have three kids. Wow. Sometimes I can’t even believe that!
I worked in local government for many years, but I didn’t love it. After our first child was born, I decided to pivot and threw myself into blogging, freelance writing, and social media. I’ve always been creative, and I’ve always loved to write.
I taught myself how to code websites and learned web design. I love the Internet. I love sharing. So blogging and writing and social media are some of my favorite things.
What do you do for NDI?
When NDI was building our house, I thought the website could use some help. And maybe also the social media presence…and a couple other things! So I approached Jen with an job proposal, and she accepted!
As I’ve gotten to know Jen and the NDI team some more, my role expanded to include more design work and more work with clients. I LOVE talking about home design. I frequently pull up Houzz and scroll around to check out the latest wood floor trends, scope out what’s new in tile, and the other creative features people are adding to their homes (love that sliding barn door trend!).
I also love PEOPLE. Working with clients is so much fun. Since I’ve built a home, I get the frustration and the excitement.
As the Client Experience Consultant, I tell the story of NDI and weave clients into that story, via social media, blogging, helping clients through the process, and staying current on trends.
What advice would you give about building a custom home?
Don’t worry too much about making the “right” choice. NDI offers beautiful finishings – you can’t go wrong. And pick what YOU want! Not what your mom or sister or friend thinks is pretty. What do YOU like? You’re the one who will wake up and look at that floor or those cabinets.
What do you wish you’d done?
HA! I get this question SO often! Everyone is always interested in what I would have done differently. Hmm…it’s a tough questions because I really love my home!
I do wish I had gone with the craftsman staircase. It’s so beautiful! And I’d go with different trim in my Hallway, Living Room, and Dining Room.
And maybe a different color island. 😉
But, truly, I love our selections, and I love our home.
I love our bathroom a lot (A LOT) because in our old house, we had the smallest, grossest, bathroom. I wanted a huge shower and a big vanity space for doing my hair and makeup. And that’s what I got!
When you’re not working, what do you do?
I’ve been blogging since 2009, and I love sharing online in that medium. I also host two podcasts, one where I interview really cool people, and another I co-host with a friend and we talk about…well, anything and everything! I also teach group fitness (BodyStep, BodyPump, and RPM). And, of course, I love to spend time with my family.
Thank you Sarah!
