I’ve been writing a blog series about redecorating/repurposing your space, because let’s face it, as our lives change, so do our needs. And as our needs change, our homes need to change with us. It is one of the reasons I still love living in our Nottingham Model after over 17 years.
When Paul & I built our home, we didn’t think we would have children. Two years later, our first son was born, and 18 months after that, our second son came along. This home has changed right along with us, and when I say we utilize it all, I mean it. Especially after I repurposed one of the rooms that wasn’t getting the love (use) it deserved.
Do you have a space you want to transform either visually or for it’s functionality? In this series, I’ve given tips on how to get started, how to prep the space, and how to shop for your new space. Today is the big reveal of my new space (and why I love it so much!).
If you remember from the first post in this series, I decided to repurpose a room that was primarily being used to hang my air dry laundry. It was previously a guest room, then the nursery, and then Andrew’s bedroom before he started bunking up with Nate several years ago. Since then, it’s been setup as a second guest room that barely got used (except by said laundry).
I decided on one random Monday to repurpose this room for me, and just me! I’ve been using this space for over a year now, and it has been my home office, my gym, my quiet space and my retreat.
I love it so much!

I start most of my mornings in this space, often before anyone else is awake. It feels like the luxury it is to have a room all to myself. There are little things I love about it, that make it extra special (to me). I setup this fun little beverage center so I can make coffee or grab something cold to drink. It’s an indulgence given my kitchen is just one flight of stairs away, but why not?
Sitting in my chair with a fresh cup of coffee, listening to music, the birds chirping outside, or just my own thoughts is how I love to start my day. My quiet time is precious to me!
When I was looking for a desk for my room, I knew I wanted to face it looking out the front window…
I love sitting at my desk and looking out the window (my son, Andrew, calls it my “perch”!). This time of year is really beautiful with all the colors of fall!
I’ve also tried to fill this room with things that are special to me – notes from my boys, the first picture Paul and I ever took together (in 1995!), pictures of cherished people in my life (here and gone), my favorite bible verses (both from the book of Psalm), and this precious piece of art, my best friend gifted to me for my 50th birthday.

Each one of the I Love You(s) is “written” by someone I know, so it is their actual handwriting. It is one of the most meaningful gifts I’ve ever received. And it reminds me how much I am loved!
Thank you for following along this series. I know it is hard to make the leap when decorating or redecorating a space, but sometimes you just have to trust your vision and take the first step.
I have found so much joy in my new space. I hope the same for you!
